Statement of Intention

Every birthing person deserves to be supported and respected during pregnancy, labor and postpartum by being well informed about their options, having their concerns heard, and their choices honored. Mother’s Nest is committed to providing a space where all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation feel safe. I understand that not every birthing person identifies as ‘mother’ and welcome and value all gender expressions and parenting titles. I hope to be apart of the birthing community of change by cultivating a communal feeling of care and a compassionate nest for new families.

Meet Your Doula

Lucy was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California. She received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from University of California, Santa Barbara. After college, she explored various occupations related to women’s health and children. One of which was working at CALM (Child Abuse Listening Mediation), where she supported women and children recovering from an abusive home life. After months of traveling abroad, she returned to Santa Cruz to start a family and gave birth to two sons, Charlie age four and Heath age two. She completed her doula training from ToLabor and her postpartum training from Natural Resources in San Francisco. Lucy also has her 200 hour therapeutic yoga teacher training certificate and believes it enhances her doula practice by being able to offer various comfort measures during labor and postpartum. She and her family recently moved to southern Oregon so they could be closer to nature. On the weekends they enjoy swimming in Applegate Lake, camping trips, cooking, expanding their garden, and going to see live music.

In 2019, Lucy was interviewed on the Wild & Wild Motherhood Podcast where she shares about giving birth to her first son at 34 weeks and her challenging fourth trimester experience. To listen to her story click here.

“Since I was young, I have felt drawn to supporting women and families. After the birth of my two sons I realized my calling was doula work. My first son was born naturally at 34 weeks and my second by way of an emergency cesarean at 31 weeks. Because my birth experiences were considerably different, I carry a wide range of knowledge and deep understanding of various potential birth outcomes. There is no one way to give birth however there is space in each experience for a compassionate ally. As your birth doula, I hope to educate, empower, and support you in giving birth however it evolves. As your postpartum doula, I will nurture you and your family in the fourth trimester and beyond, to lighten your load as you acclimate to life with your new baby. Our society often forgets to care for new parents. I hope to change that narrative for you and bring back a communal feeling of support because I know firsthand, it takes a village. If you feel held and supported during our time together then I have done my job.”
